Isabela State University (ISU) welcomed Batanes State College (BSC), represented by Ms. Daryl Alva B. Duguran (BSC Director, Internationalization and External Linkages), for a benchmarking activity related to the University’s internationalization efforts and its participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.

The said benchmarking aimed to provide insights to help improve BSC’s international programs, its facilitation of student exchange programs, and its global partnerships.

Ms. Duguran was received by University and campus officials and staff including Atty. Romano P. Cammayo (Vice President, Administrative and Finance Services), Dr. Jose P. Gallena, Jr. (Cluster Executive Officer, Echague Campus), Dr. Marinel P. Dayawon (University Director, Instruction), Dr. Ma. Rita A. Reario (Campus Director, Academic Affairs), Ms. Maricel Joy P. Abella (Campus Director, Quality Assurance), and Mr. Johnray Gallena (University Section Chief, THE Impact Rankings and Philippine Quality Awards).

During the benchmarking, inputs and presentations were given by ISU related to its internationalization programs and its best practices for the THE Impact Rankings.

Some of the discussions revolved around the processes of the University in conducting its student exchange programs and global partnerships. Highlights include the importance of the reciprocity of benefits between partnering institutions as well as pointers on developing exchange programs considering the compatibility of course offerings.

ISU also shared its recent achievement of being accepted as an associate member of the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) and its joint activities with its SEA and western partners.

On the other hand, a detailed presentation on the THE Impact Rankings was presented to aid BSC in its vision to also join the said global rankings. In the presentation, the University shared its progress story and best practices since its first participation in 2022.

Along with this, suggestions from ISU were given to strengthen BSC’s capacity in their first application such as keeping up with the recent developments in the THE Impact Rankings Methodology, attending seminars/conferences sponsored by THE, and making sustainability a the strategic focus of the university and its leaders.
