HATS OFF! | The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPhl) bestowed the 2022 Top Copyright Filer to Isabela State University in recognition of its contributions in the fostering of intellectual properties in the academe during the culmination of the 2023 Presidential Summit held at Sequioa Hotel, Manila Bay, early this Tuesday (March 28).
Since 2020, the University has become an eager partner of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the IPOPhl in spurring innovations thru S&T which add to the country’s efforts on escalating its position in the Global Innovation Index.
As such, ISU became staunchly dedicated being a participant and co-implementer to DOST’s “Engaging Innovation by Nurturing Significance of Thousand Excellent Ideas in the North” or EINSTEIN 1K, which aims to to file one thousand (1K) Intellectual Property Rights application in the project’s two- year run to boost the region’s science, technology, and innovation (STI) engagement.
The undertaking encourages members from the government, private sector, and academe to produce innovations that will be of use in upscaling local enterprises, thus empowering local economies.
From 2017-2021, ISU has been able to register a total of 198 IPRs comprising of Patents, Utility Models, Trademarks, Industrial Designs, and Copyrights. In the 2021 Regional S&T Caravan alone, ISU has submitted 647 IPR of the total 1,098 applications, garnering a grant-in-aide fund from the DOST-R02 totaling to about 500,000 Pesos, and an award being the HEI with the most submitted Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) applications.
