Isabela State University’s delegates bannered the University’s colors in a showcase of talent and commitment to the global sustainable development goals during the International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO 2023, December 9-11.
Youth for UNESCO, or United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is the country’s largest gathering of youth advocates for UNESCO organized by National Coordinating Body of Clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines, Inc. (NCBCUP) and the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM).
During the event, two of student organizations from ISU- the Confederation of Multiskilled Educators on Technology and Innovations (CMETI) of ISU Echague and League of Future Nurses of ISU Ilagan, were recognized and were able to secure accreditation as members of the NCBCUP.
The UNESCO accreditation recognizes the clubs as partners in mainstreaming the SDGs among youth sectors and puts a seal in the student organizations’ potential in their international contributions towards the attainment of the SDGs.
With the distinction, the student organizations of the University were among the 85 accredited organizations that received accreditation status which were awarded in the Grand Opera Hotel- Manila, Philippines with the UNACOM and NCBCUP.
Contending with over 600 delegates all over the Philippines, ISUans also exemplified and reaped awards in various academic and non-academic competitions such as Quiz Bowl, Spoken Word, Poster Making and Essay Writing.
Justine Panaga, a senior Criminology student of ISU Echague, bagged the championship title as the Ambassador for UNESCO Clubs Philippines 2024. In addition to his title, he also hauled the awards for Best in Cultural Wear, Best in Talent, Best in Barong, and the People’s Choice.
Together with Panaga, Aubrey Bañaga of ISU-E was hailed Second Runner-up as the Ambassadress for UNESCO CLUBS Philippines.
Marc Kendwin Saet also set mark as champion for the On-the-Spot Poster Making; Heinrich Emmanuel Galabay and Elijah Khimberly Baquiran finished 2nd Runner-up for the Quizbowl UNESCO-SDG; Christine Bernardo was 2nd Runner-up for Essay Writing Senior High School Category; Alexis Mae Aquino and Jonathan Gunan as Semi-finalist for the Quizbowl UNESCO-SDG; with Erich Gwen Siquian and Krisitine Santos as Semi-finalists for Quizbowl UNESCO-SDG.
Engaging towards the mainstreaming of the UN-SDGs, Isabela State University supports co-curricular activities that encourage holistic participation and appreciation of students to the Sustainable Development Goals.
