FEATURE | The sports facilities at Isabela State University (ISU) in Echague play a significant role in promoting health and wellness within the community. Open to the public, these facilities support a variety of programs, including sports activities and physical education classes, directly benefiting the university’s stakeholders.

The 2023 Echague Municipal Athletic Meet utilized ISU’s sports facilities, allowing local athletes to showcase their skills and engage with their peers. This event not only fostered competition but also encouraged community involvement in sports.

The six (6) participating agencies, which consisted of the Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development (CVCHD), Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC), Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC), DOH-Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DOH-TRC 02), Batanes General Hospital (BGH), and the gracious host, Southern Isabela Medical Center (SIMC), had overcome challenges together, and the first day was a testament to their unwavering dedication and unity.

Additionally, ISU hosted the Regional Friendship Games from August 22 to 25, organized by the Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development (CVCHD). This event, themed “Building Bridges for Better Health Service through Sportsmanship,” brought together participants from Department of Health (DOH) hospitals and the Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (TRC) in Region 2. The four-day event emphasized the importance of collaboration and health promotion through sports.

Athletes from East, West, South, and North Districts of Echague participated in the opening of the Municipal Athletic Meet at Isabela State University-Echague’s oval ground, November 10, 2023.

By making its sports facilities accessible to the public, ISU aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. This approach not only supports physical fitness but also strengthens community ties.

Through its active engagement in health and wellness initiatives, ISU contributes to a healthier, more connected community, illustrating the university’s role as a vital resource in the region.
