Isabela State University (ISU) served as the first stop of the Inland Aquatic Resources Research Division (IARRD) of the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) for the Monitoring and Evaluation of the National Tilapia R&D Program.

On June 6, 2025, the IARRD team was received by Dr. Mary Joy Asprec (Dean, College of Fisheries) who expressed gratitude for the division’s continuous support and guidance to ISU’s research endeavors in inland fisheries.

The visit included an on-site inspection of Project 3 and Project 5 experimental set-ups, as well as the ongoing repair of ISU’s fisheries laboratory and tilapia hatchery. Project 3 focuses on the Reproductive Performance of FaST Strain Using Propre Boost, while Project 5 centers on the Evaluation of Rearing Performance of FaST and Other Strains in Warm and Cold Conditions.

Following the visit from IARRD, some members from the University proceeded to Central Luzon State University (CLSU) on August 7, 2025, for the second day of the program monitoring. Program Leader Dr. Karl Marx A. Quiazon, together with project leaders Engr. Jonathan V. Fabula, Dr. Mary Joy L. Asprec, Dr. Emmanuel M. Vera Cruz, and Dr. Isagani P. Angeles Jr., presented their respective project updates, highlighting both technical and financial accomplishments, as well as strategies to meet project targets.

The IARRD and the National Tilapia R&D Program team will continue their monitoring and evaluation in the coming days to ensure the successful implementation of the program’s remaining projects, reinforcing the country’s commitment to advancing tilapia research and production.
