Isabela State University (ISU) welcomed the delegation from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 01 for a benchmarking on January 28, 2025 at the Alba Hall, ISU Echague. The said benchmarking is related to the Intellectual Property (IP) processes being done in the University through its Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) office.
The DOST Region 01 delegation was headed by Dr. Teresita A. Tabaog (Director, DOST Region 01) and were received by Dr. Eva U. Cammayo (Project Leader, IPTBM) and Dr. Ferdinand Bolusan (Director, Knowledge and Technology Management).
During the benchmarking, the University has shared its IP Management practices, specifically its guidelines on the following: IP General Policies, Ownership of Copyright, Waiver of Ownership by the University, Ownership of Inventions, and Inventions funded by outside entities. In addition, ISU has also shared its upcoming project on coming up with a Regional IP Policy in collaboration with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and other State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the region.
The highlight of the benchmarking is the sharing of resources between both institutions. The University has shared its manuals on technology transfer, IP, and Knowledge and Technology Management. On the other hand, DOST Region 01 have given insights on the prioritization of researchable topics and the profiles of DOST Undersecretaries for possible collaborations and funding.
In her discussion, Dr. Tabaog reminded that all research should be market driven emphasizing that funding agencies are now looking for the economic component of each research. She also added that stakeholders’ consultations are vital to have the ability to answer community problems and concerns.
