Students and faculty of Isabela State University (ISU) won several awards during the 2024  International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) on November 29 to December 1, 2024 at the Citystate Asturias Hotel Palawan, Puerto Princesa City.

Under the theme, “Empowering Communities through UNESCO Initiatives: Advancing Science and Technology, Culture, Creativity, and Lifelong Learning,” the international assembly convened 400 Clubs for UNESCO and aspiring Clubs for UNESCO nationwide. The gathering aimed to serve as a platform for youth mentoring, dialogue, and peer collaboration, aligned with UNESCO’s mission and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The ISU delegation actively participated in various activities and competitions designed to reinforce the core mandate of Clubs for UNESCO as grassroots changemakers. These initiatives aimed to empower them to take on the challenge of localizing efforts aligned with regional, national, and international declarations.

The following were the awards by ISU during the said assembly:

  • Outstanding Club
    • Most Outstanding Club for UNESCO in the Philippines (College Level): Confederation of Multiskilled Educators on Technology and Innovation – Echague Chapter (Out of 250 accredited Clubs for UNESCO for 2023, the National Coordinating Body of Clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines (NCBUCP) Awards Committee has unanimously approved their recognition as an Outstanding Club for UNESCO for 2024)
  • Outstanding Educator
    • University President Level: Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino
    • College Teaching and Supervision Level: Christian Lloyd D. Taguba
  • Academic Competitions
    • Poster Making Contest (Champion): Marvin Payumo
    • Poster Making Contest (1st Runner Up): Marck Kendwin Saet
    • SDG-UNESCO Quiz Bowl (1st Runner Up): Niko Bucad and Huxfley-Joe Estela
    • Cultural Presentation (1st Runner Up): STEPS Dance Troupe

To top off these achievements, several student organizations from the University’s different campuses were accredited and re-accredited by the NCBUCP. During the recent event, Mr. Taguba was also elected as an NCBUCP National Board Member.
