Isabela State University (ISU) and the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Santiago City entered  into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on November 19, 2025 to formalize a partnership aimed at advancing workplace wellness and mental health in the educational setting.

During the said signing, ISU was represented by Dr. Boyet L. Batang (University President), while Mr. Alfredo B. Gumaru, Jr. (Schools Division Superintendent) signed on behalf of SDO Santiago City.

The collaboration is part of the University’s mandate to deliver comprehensive, community-responsive extension programs that address emerging concerns in physical and mental well-being among teachers, local government employees, and youth development officers. Through this partnership, the University serves as driver of professional development and societal engagement, strengthening its Extension Capability initiatives to meet evolving public needs.

Central to the agreement is the implementation of the project, “Physical Wellness Program Among LGU – Santiago City Employees, DepEd Teachers, and LYDO of Santiago City.” This multi-component program seeks to promote holistic wellness through structured physical, psychosocial, and health-focused interventions.

The said project is led by Dr. Jonathan L. Roque, with a team of Study Leaders composed of Dr. Mark Bennette Ulep, Mr. Jhan Micheal Hiloma, Dr. Martina R. Peñalber, and Mr. Jade C. Marcos.

The initiative is composed of the following key components: Physical Activity Exercises and Dance Literacy for developing holistic attributes among teachers, employees, and youth development officers; Physical Activity Program designed for DepEd MAPEH teachers and LGU Santiago City employees; Injury Prevention and Risk Management sessions to ensure safe and sustainable engagement in physical activities; Health and Nutritional Awareness to promote informed lifestyle practices; and Psychosocial and Mental Health Support specifically tailored for MAPEH teachers.

By integrating these components, the project hopes to enhance health literacy, reduce workplace stress, and practice a culture of wellness across the local education and government workforce.
