Isabela State University (ISU) received a Plaque of Recognition from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) for its support as a partner on Textile Technology Diffusion in the Academic Sector. The said award was conferred during the 2026 TELA Convention held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
The three-day convention from January 27-29, 2026 with the theme, “Stitching Futures”, is an event for the annual Philippine Tropical Fabrics (PTF) Month which brings together textile innovators, industry leaders, researchers, creatives, and policymakers to drive sector-wide collaboration.
The recognition was awarded by Hon. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. (Secretary, DOST) and Dr. Julius Leano (Director, DOST-PTRI) and was received by Dr. Freddie O. Orperia (Focal Person, RYPIC-Isabela).
On display during the convention were uniforms of the military as well as Barong Tagalogs made from yarns produced at RYPIC-Isabela.
Back in March 2022, the ISU Ilagan Campus, in collaboration with the DOST-PTRI, DOST RO2 and the City of Ilagan entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the establishment of the Regional Yarn Production and Innovation Center – Isabela (RYPIC-Isabela) – the first of its kind in Northern Luzon and the second in the country.
