Isabela State University (ISU) attended a meeting led by the Department of Science and Technology Region 02 (DOST-R02) to discuss the proposed transfer of ISU salted duck egg processing technologies to the licensee, Aquchickboy Meatshop and General Merchandize, represented by Dr. Rofel P. Gamiao (Proprietor).

The ISU flavored salted duck egg processing technologies – spicy, garlic, and lemon grass were developed by Dr. Jonathan N. Nayga and Dr. Mark Joker L. Marcos. This innovation on the salted duck egg was initiated to improve the product’s characteristics including flavor, aroma, texture, and color, while also aiming to increase the shelf life of the product from 2 to 3 weeks.

This improvement is expected to capture and create a new market and to add value to duck eggs. The processing technologies are registered utility models, and the products are all subjected to necessary laboratory evaluation such as nutritional and commercial sterility testing.

The meeting is also attended by the Fairness Opinion Board (FOB), an independent body of experts who are responsible for providing a Fairness Opinion Report (FOR) on the fairness of proposed technology transfer transactions. The main duties of the FOB are to analyze the proposed transaction in terms of financial viability and its fairness to the Research and Development Institute (RDI). For this proposed transaction, the FOB members are Atty. Cyris L. Restauro (DTI-02), Dr. Froilan A. Pacris (CSU-Gonzaga Campus), and Mr. Arturo B. Tabbu (Lighthouse Cooperative).

Through this transaction, ISU will further help duck raisers in the Province of Isabela by creating a market of the product. Furthermore, this will strengthen the University’s commitment to end poverty and to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

The efforts to transfer and commercialize ISU mature technologies to the private sector is one of the primary duties of ISU Technology Business Incubator. This particular activity is part of the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement Program in Cagayan Valley (RAISE-CV) led by Dr. Nayga.
