Isabela State University (ISU), through the ISU Food Innovation Center (FIC) under the SMART FIC Project launched the ISU Food Bank and Feeding Program Initiative, a concrete demonstration of the University’s institutional commitment to address student food insecurity in support of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger.
The initiative establishes a campus-based food bank dedicated to providing nutritious meals to indigent students identified by the Office of Student Affairs. By ensuring that financially challenged students have access to healthy and balanced meals, ISU seeks to directly combat hunger and malnutrition, both of which can hinder students’ academic performance and overall well-being.
The program is implemented in close collaboration with the Supreme Student Council (SSC), the ISU Cauayan Faculty Association, and the School Cafeteria. This multi-sectoral partnership reflects the University’s strong sense of community and shared responsibility in creating a hunger-free and more resilient campus environment.
Beyond providing meals, the initiative also aims to promote nutrition education, healthy eating habits, and student engagement. Through awareness campaigns and hands-on participation, students are encouraged to take an active role in fostering a culture of wellness and mutual support within the University.
The measurable outcomes of the initiative, such as the number of meals distributed, the increase in student awareness on nutrition, and the active involvement of volunteers, serve as clear indicators of ISU’s continuing effort to advance food security and sustainable development.
During the launch, Team ISU FIC expressed its gratitude to all individuals and organizations who supported the program, highlighting that collective action remains key to sustaining the initiative. “Together we can make a difference in combating food insecurity and promoting good nutrition in our school community,” the team affirmed.
Through the Food Bank and Feeding Program Initiative, the University reaffirms its mission not only as a center of academic excellence but also as a compassionate institution dedicated to the holistic welfare of its students and the greater goal of achieving Zero Hunger.
