MANILA, Philippines — In a robust display of commitment to heritage preservation, the Isabela State University joined hundreds of cultural advocates for “Bantay Kultura: National Retooling and Recognition of Cultural Education Scholars and Faculty” held at the Metropolitan Theater Ballroom on May 9, 2026.

The one-day event, organized by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Philippine Cultural Education Program (PCEP), served as a national tribute to former scholars and faculty members of various cultural diploma and degree programs, including the Graduate Diploma in Cultural Education (GDCE) and the Graduate Diploma in Theater Arts (GDTA).

ISU highlights regional success

The gathering was graced by prominent cultural icons, including National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario and Senator Loren Legarda, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Culture and the Arts.

In her keynote address, Senator Legarda underscored the necessity of culture-based education in modern institutions.

She challenged the gathered educators to be “torchbearers” for the underserved, noting that their roles are vital in creating a “shadow of change” amidst a rapidly evolving world.

A unified front for heritage

The event was made possible through the collaboration of several organizations:

    • National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)
    • Philippine Cultural Education Program (PCEP)
    • National Cultural Educators Organization (NACES) – Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao Chapters
    • PCEP Partner Universities and Faculty

The celebration concluded with a call to unity, emphasizing that while Philippine culture is diverse, the mission to protect the “soul of the nation” remains a singular, collective effort.

ISU remains true to its mission as ‘A University for People,’ proving that a student’s heritage isn’t just their past—it’s the foundation of their future.
