Isabela State University (ISU) joins this year’s 18-day (from November 25 to December 12) Campaign to End Violence Against Women through a simultaneous launching program held on November 25, 2024 at the different campuses of the University.
The said launching program attended by University and campus officials and staff is in line with Proclamation 1172, s. 2006 and by virtue of Republic Act 10398 which mandates government agencies to raise awareness on the problem of violence and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls.
Our Time to Act: A Gender-Based Violence-Free ISU, conducted as part of the weekly flag raising ceremony, featured some activities which included a lecturette on Safe Spaces in the Workplace, solidarity dances, and inspirational messages.
The lecturette delivered by Dr. Mary Grace O. Gumpal (GAD Coordinator, College of Arts and Sciences) centered on the topic of Workplace Gaslighting. She asserted that it is imperative for the University to address the said issue by creating spaces through specific steps such as practicing an open and honest communication, having a culture of accountability, and knowing oneself.
In support of the campaign, Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino (University President) delivered the inspirational message where he encouraged the ISU community to raise their voices in solidarity with women everywhere, and commit to be agents of positive change. In the same manner, he encouraged the members of the University to transform their commitment to action and be listening allies of women.
“Malinaw dapat sa atin na ang labing-walong araw ay hindi sapat. Hangga’t mayroong karahasan tungo sa kababaihan tungkulin nating lahat na tiyakin na ang ating mga nasimulan, ang ating mga aktibidades ay mapanatiling ligtas, pantay, at nagpapalakas sa kakayahan ng bawat isa,” Dr. Aquino said.
