Representatives of Isabela State University (ISU) attended a water conference and benchmarking meeting with the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) and Vietnam Water Resources University (WRU) on September 12-15, 2024 at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The official representatives of the University were Dr. Orlando F. Balderama (Vice President, Research and Development, Extension and Training) and Dr. Isagani P. Angeles Jr. (Director, Public Relations, External Linkages and International Affairs).
The said activities are in line with ISU’s endeavors to pursue academic linkages and collaborative undertaking with international institutions in order to maximize the use of its resources and attain the goals and objectives of the higher education sector along global competitiveness.
More specifically, the visit to Vietnam also aimed to: promote Flood and Sediment Management in River Basin for Sustainable Development (FSMaRT) and International Organization on Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Management (IO-CCADRRM); participate on a field work at Mekong River; and establish stronger partnership with the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), Kyoto University, and VGU and Thuyloi University.
As an effort to present ISU’s activities and projects, Dr. Balderama gave a presentation on the water management initiatives of ISU while Dr. Angeles presented the internationalization programs of the University and promoted its two (2) upcoming international conferences: FSMaRT and IO-CCADRRM.
One of the highlights of the said trip is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between VGU and ISU geared towards future collaborative activities for academics and research and development as the University aims to be a National Water Resources University in the Philippines.
In keeping with the internationalization of programs as part of globalization, ISU continues to pursue collaborative linkages with universities of international caliber, promoting mutual growth and sharing of knowledge through joint research and academic ventures.
