Isabela State University (ISU) conducted a Teacher-Training Workshop on TESOL and ELT on March 5-7, 2025 at the Climate Change Center, ISU Echague. The workshop, attended by English Language teachers, is through the initiative of the Department of Languages and Literature of the College of Arts and Sciences in the main campus.
In collaboration with the Regional English Language Office (RELO), US Embassy Manila, the event was graced by Ms. Maureen Rooney as the trainer. Ms. Rooney is part of the English Language Programs of the US Department of State which sends US educators in the field of teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) abroad to assist US embassies in delivering and maintaining quality English language programs.
For more information, the event served as a professional development course designed for educators who want to learn the skills and methodologies necessary to effectively teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to non-native speakers, covering both the theoretical aspects of TESOL and practical applications in the English Language Teaching (ELT) classroom.
With the ongoing partnership between ISU and the US Embassy in the Philippines, the University is one of the beneficiaries of RELO which supports public diplomacy outreach through English language teaching and learning programs and materials throughout the region in the countries of Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Brunei, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, and the Pacific Island countries.
