Isabela State University (ISU) through the Association of Criminology Students of its Jones Campus spearheaded a two-day seminar-training titled “Res-CUE: Rescuers on the Go! A Capability, Utilization, and Empowerment Training” on October 1–2, 2024, at the Community Center in Palagao, Jones, Isabela. This initiative is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (UN SDGs) 4, which emphasized expanding educational outreach beyond the university.
The activity aimed to enhance the capacity of Barangay Officials, Tanods, and Barangay Health Workers by equipping them with essential knowledge and practical skills in emergency response, rescue operations, and community safety. Through a combination of interactive lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, participants gained valuable competencies to improve their readiness and effectiveness during emergencies and disasters.
This community-based training highlights the University’s continuing commitment to extend learning beyond the classroom. By engaging faculty members and student volunteers in delivering specialized training programs, ISU ensures that education remains responsive to real-world needs.
Moreover, the initiative contributes to strengthening local disaster preparedness and promoting a culture of civic responsibility, collaboration, and resilience at the grassroots level. Through programs like Res-CUE, ISU strengthens its role as an academic institution that empowers communities through knowledge, service, and sustainable development.
