Isabela State University (ISU) hosts the 5th Luzon Mango Congress with the theme, “Advancing the Sector Towards Food Availability and Food Safety”, from August 7-8, 2025 at the ISU Echague Campus Amphitheater.
As part of the event, Dr. Boyet L. Batang (University President) was invited to deliver a special message on behalf of the University, affirming ISU’s commitment to collaborate with government agencies, local communities, and industry stakeholders in developing sustainable solutions.
Mango growers from across the Philippines attended the said congress to address pressing challenges brought about by recent calamities and industry setbacks. The congress served as a platform for sharing strategies, market insights, and innovative approaches to strengthen the mango industry.
Experts and researchers from various sectors including the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), academic institutions, and private stakeholders presented diverse methods to improve mango production, ensure product quality, and achieve sustainable and continuous harvests. Topics covered ranged from pest management to the nutritional and economic value of mangoes.
Participants also discussed the current state of the mango market and explored potential opportunities for farmers to engage in mango trading and value-adding enterprises. Emphasis was placed on increasing the profitability of mango farming through improved techniques and market access.
In addition, DA continues to lay out its ongoing and upcoming projects in support of mango growers. Farmers were guided on how to avail of these programs, which aim to boost productivity and ensure inclusivity in support services.
One of the most critical issues tackled was the importance of investing in crop insurance and financial safeguards. These measures are designed to protect farmers from significant losses and help them recover more effectively from natural and economic disruptions.
Overall, the congress provides a venue for dialogue, collaboration, and empowerment of mango farmers, highlighting the effort to revive and future-proof the Luzon mango industry.
