ISU has committed to aggressively establish ties with international organizations to prepare itself for ASEAN integration and internationalization. Thus far, it has accomplished the following:

  • Established friendship and exchange with Soka University in Tokyo, Japan for possible academic and cultural exchange. Last April, President Aleth M. Mamauag, along with Vice President for Academic and Related Affairs Edmundo Gumpal and Vice President for Research William C. Medrano, were invited by Soka Gakkai International based in Japan.

     A highlight of the trip to Japan was the re-enactment of the conferment of Ph.D. Honoris Causa to Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, founder of Soka Gakkai International and other Soka schools, in recognition of his outstanding achievements as philosopher, peace builder, educator, prolific writer and poet. As a result of this trip, ISU received a donation of Ps 100,000 for the computer laboratory of San Mariano campus, one full undergraduate scholarship for ISU Cabagan, 100 various references on Humanism, Culture and the Arts and possible faculty and student exchanges.

     In that trip, Dr. Aleth M. Mamauag was conferred the Soka University Award of Highest Honor in recognition of her enduring contributions to the promotion of education, culture and the cause of world peace. Also, the Soka Friendship Award was also given to Dr. Mamauag as an expression of deepest respect and eternal friendship to the ISU President.

  • Made possible ISU’s membership to the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP)

    On May 28-31, Dr. William C. Medrano attended AUAP-SIAS International Conference in South Korea which paved the way for ISU’s membership to the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP).

  • Established friendship with Lincoln University (LU)  in New Zealand

Last April, Dr. Aleth M. Mamauag attended the graduation ceremony of an ISU faculty who took her second doctoral degree from the Lincoln University in New Zealand. Outcomes of the said trip included a visit to a Filipino-managed Dairy Farm in Christ Church including its modern mechanized milking facilities and identification of possible placements for Agriculture/Nursing/IF/Vetmed graduates. Possible linkages with Lincoln University  for faculty and student exchange/twinning program and scholarships were also identified.

  • Forged a memorandum of understanding between the Philippine Society for Public Administration (PSPA) and Korean Association for Public Administration (KAPA) in Daegu, South Korea during  the World Conference for Public Administration from June 25-25, 2014

Other significant markers for ISU’s internationalization efforts were the following:

  • One faculty availed of the Applied Communication Experts training in South Korea last February;
  • A BS Agricultural Engineering student represented the Philippines to the Association of University Scholars in the University of Australia, Melbourne, Australia.
